EXTENDING THE RAILWAY: THE YARRA LANDING CIRCUIT

The Diamond Valley Railway Proposal to Extend the Experience

The Diamond Valley Railway wants to build a new railway circuit in the southern part of Eltham Lower Park. But, we need the help of the public to convince the Nillumbik Shire Council that we should.

We want to do this because passenger numbers are increasing exponentially and the increase does not look like stopping any time soon. Anyone who has attended the railway on a Sunday with good weather will know that waiting times of 30 minutes or more are too common. The queues can be more than 200 metres in length. We cannot fit any more trains onto our current circuit, and there are no modifications that can be made that will alleviate the problem. Any tinkering with the layout will be ineffectual, but not doing something will mean that the railway will increasingly be swamped with passengers.

The council has recently adopted a Tourism Plan for Nillumbik called the 'Destination Management Plan'. The original Consultants report recommended supporting the Railways expansion plans. The council refused and adopted a 'do nothing' neutered clause instead. If you want to know what our plan is and the Nillumbik Shire Council's response to it, please click here.

Members of the public can assist the railway by taking any opportunity to remind the council and councillors about the need for an additional circuit in the southern half of Eltham Lower Park and better amenities for sporting groups and visitors in the Park.
