DVR 50th Birthday Action Plan.
A couple of big weeks are coming up. The first weekend of the celebrations (22nd and 23rd October) will be focussed on our visitors. We will greet them as they arrive at the railway with their locos' from Wednesday 19th and running will start on Friday 21st and continue through Saturday culminating with a 24 hour run for visitors and members which will occur from 5:00pm on Saturday 22nd, finishing on Sunday 23rd at 5:00pm. Public Running will occur as usual on Sunday 23rd and will coincide with the club 24 hour run for the last 6 hours. A meal for visitors, members and guests is being organised for the Saturday evening. If you wish to eat, make sure that you have filled in a meal request slip and put it in Sam's mailbox in the clubrooms. $20 gets you a roast dinner – just the thing to fortify you for a long night's running! The following weekend, October 29th and 30th will also see lots of activity. Visitors and members can enjoy private running on the Saturday, whilst Sunday is our formal 50th Anniversary celebration day. The Saturday is intended to be a Members and Visitors family day. The Jack Tatum Rotunda and Bar-B-Que has been allocated to members and their families to enjoy the railway and to mingle with other members and visitors. The next day, Sunday is our 50th Birthday celebration. The Nillimbuk Mayor, Cr Helen Coleman and our erstwhile President, Sam Daly, will take care of the formal part of the day, just before a special 12 hour Public Running begins at 11:00am and concludes at 11:00pm. These two weekends provide a great opportunity for members to meet and greet and reminisce over past glories. And, of course, members are very much encouraged to attend to ensure that this is a great celebration for the club. We need our members to spread the load by assisting as train crews or signallers, or in any of the many other opportunities in the railway. Please help out if you can – and not only on these events. The increasing popularity of the railway brings additional demands and really does bring to mind the old adage: "Many hands make light work!" The committee is moving to construct a ‘Time Capsule' into which various artefacts will be placed. Because we want to include material from our 50th, the Time Capsule will be interred towards the end of the year. A video DVD will also be made and will be available to members in mid-December. This will be a professionally video-ed and edited production with titles and accoutrements of the running days of the two weekends of our 50th celebrations, as well as footage of the 3,000,000th passenger celebration. LET US KNOW ASAP if you want dinner onthe Saturday night, $20 but email us for tickets. |
