In 1982 and 1984 a detailed booklet was published called "Diamond Power". It was a pictorial record of all rollingstock. This section owes most of its information to this booklet. Each loco/carriage/wagon has a description, and if available, a photo of the item.

DIAMOND POWER: FOREWORD

The authors wish to thank those who contributed in one way or another to the compilation of this issue of DIAMOND POWER. To those who have been with D.V.R. since its beginning and who have, with foresight, dedication and plain hard work, made us what we are today; a special 'thank you'.

INTRODUCTION

Since the commencement of operations in Eltham Lower Park on 29th October 1961 when a humble start was made on the system existing today, a variety of rolling stock has been used on the railway. Some are still in use; other items have been transferred or scrapped.

DIAMOND POWER has endeavoured to record the development of rolling stock on Diamond Valley Railway from its inception to this, its thirty forth year of operation.

DVR is a miniature rather than a model railway although, as will be evident to patrons, it follows Victorian Railways practice to a marked extent. Not all items of rolling stock depicted in the booklet are accurate scale models of some full size locomotive, carriage &c. For serious passenger carrying requirements such an approach is not altogether practicable and, as a guide, the following standards have been adopted.

  • Rolling stock 1/6th full size
  • Signals 1/4 full size
  • Lineside features 1/2 full size
SPECIFICATIONS

Measurements and weights given are approximate and the bracketed metric equivalents have been rounded off. Weights are given in hundredweights (cwt); 1 cwt being equal to 50.8 kg or 0.056 tonnes.
